Sleeping a maximum of eight guests, we offer our guests an intimate and private safari experience.

Shalimpo is situated at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo Rivers, within Botswana's Northern Tuli Game Reserve and forms an integral part of the Shashe/Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, opposite the world renowned heritage site of Mapungbwe. With it's rich and colourful history spanning four generations of Coetzer Family custodianship.

We strive to ensure that Shalimpo's facilities and service promotes our principles of responsible and sustainable utilization of resources. We take conservation seriously at Shalimpo and have therefore chosen a path of limited, yet sustainable, utilization of natural resources with regards to operating our lodge in this unspoilt and naturally rich area of which we are now honoured to be the custodians.

The following criteria has been put in place, at Shalimpo, in order to assist us in protecting the environment and to enable us to preserve the essence and wild character of this unique destination, to the best of our ability and for your contuniual enjoyment:-

The lodge has been kept small, intimate and can host a maximum of only eight guests at any one time. All our lodge staff and employees are local Motswana, with the majority being from the surrounding area. The lodge will be kept electricity free, with lighting and hot water being supplied to guests through the utilization of solar power and gas. Lanterns are used in addition to the solar lighting throughout the lodge.

The plunge pool has been kept to a small, yet comfortable size, in which you may cool off during warm days. The lodge gardens are kept small yet functional and the vast majority of plants found at the lodge are indigenous; our policy includes the non introduction of any exotic species and to replace exotic plants that have died with indigenous plants. Wood collection takes place by utilizing a rotating grid collection regime to ensure damage to natural areas is kept to a minimum, and maximum periods are allowed between collecting in the same areas. Guests are requested to utilize wood sparingly.

In as far as possible gas, paraffin and other locally available items are purchased from local Botswana suppliers. Only one vehicle is utilized for game drives; our policy of using existing roads and tracks for game drives, where possible, ensures minimal damage to natural areas. Petrol generators are operated only when the supplementation of alfternative energy sources are required. The pumps of boreholes, which supply waterholes and the lodge, are solar or wind powered.
